Senior Art Exhibition, 2016.
These lithographs were influenced by my travel to Medan, Indonesia, this past summer. My interest was sparked by the culture’s use of bright colors and patterns. I took photos of anything that represented this use of color and pattern such as street markets, traditional batik fabric, shop signs, hanging beads, and a variety of market goods. This trip in particular “created in me a pure heart” (Psalm 51:10). Although lithography is a lengthy and demanding process, it is a rich and expressive one with a long history. Printmaking has become meditative to me because it requires patience and mindfulness. My artwork describes the world by illuminating instances of remarkable beauty on this Earth that God created. My one desire is for my art to reflect this beauty and to let my gratitude for Him shine through.
